Just had my fireplace revamped by Karen Shapiro Grobelny. This woman is amazing! Not only is she so warm to be around and have in your home, the results of her work are wonderful! My husband said it feels like we moved into a new house. Can't say enough wonderful about this woman!
Creative and Functional Finishes
Having seen Karen’s residential and furniture work, I knew she would be the right artist to help us develop a new service piece to test for Joe’s Crab Shack. Our brand is based around the premise of a seaside shack that serves crab and seafood. We wanted to create a table-side experience that would heighten service and still feel true to the decor. I charged Karen with aging and weathering a brand new wood-and-metal service cart to feel like it was an antique straight out of an auction—rust and all—but feel old, in multiple restaurant locations. She easily surpassed my expectations with what she delivered: a work of art, but highly functional in a high-traffic restaurant setting, and she did so in a quick turn-around time. Best part of working with her was that I gave her broad parameters and she used her talent to really deliver on the vision she had, which was an amazing finish, with authentic detail and character. Karen has the ability to deliver the look and feel you want, with all the functionality for heavily-used commercial spaces. I would hire her again when I need to add character and personality to a rather mundane space.
I have worked with Karen for 1 1/2 years now. She came in and completely transformed our fireplace mantel from 3 blocks of wood into a mantel that looks like ancient wood---totally amazing! We had been wanting to change the color of our kitchen cabinets and island and she suggested a very dramatic "antique black." We LOVE the difference. Because of a mural painted on our backsplash (that we didn't want to damage), we thought we were stuck with the existing surrounding tile backsplash. Karen came up with the idea of "faux" painting a brick backsplash over the tile. Could not be happier with the result. Our master bath had dark wood on the vanity that seemed a bit heavy in such a bright room, so she painted it an "antique" white that looks beautiful! Very obviously I would totally recommend Karen to anyone who isn't completely happy with any color they currently have!
I would recommend Karen highly. She is honest, dependable, and a pleasure to work with . She has a keen eye for color and style. The wash that she applied to my fireplace completely transformed the room. She also stained my concrete floor and the color she selected looks amazing. She will be working on future projects for me for sure.
